چکیده
news. If you create conditions incompatible with life, the program lets you know your patient is dead, this is the MacMan equivalent of crashing your airplane in a flight simulator, and should this happen you merely start again, because there is no equivalent to reversing the program and resurrecting the dead. Some of the experiment options include: cutting the buffer nerves, resetting baroreceptor function to that expected of a moderately hypertensive subject, and working changes in any of the following: the systemic arterial and/or venous resistance, the cardiac pump performance, mean intrathoracic pressure, the blood volume, and the venous capacitance. Usually you can predict what will happen from what you know about physiology, when you change one factor only. The real value of the program comes when you change one factor only. The real value of the program comes when you change two or more factors simultaneously, which sometimes leads to unexpected results. This conclusion may, of course, be due to my rusty physiology, but I suspect most physicians and physiologists would find educational value in making multiple changes and seeing what happens. Our built-in compensatory mechanisms are impressive. Indeed, the program may make you agree with the Psalmist (139:14) that we are "fearfully and wonderfully made." In conclusion, MacMan is, for the proper hardware, a clean, simple, yet instructive physiologic simulation which is highly recommended.

Prevalence of subclinical hypothyroidism is increasing in community. Oxidative stress is a common occurrence in hypothyroidism. Studies regarding oxidative stress in subclinical & overt hypothyroidism are limited and controversial. Aim of the study was to estimate and compare the malondialdehyde (MDA) and protein carbonyl (PC) as oxidative stress parameters, in control, subclinical and overt hy...
متن کاملUsing psyscope to conduct IAT experiments on Macintosh computers.
The Implicit Association Test (IAT; Greenwald, McGhee, & Schwartz, 1998) is one of the most widely used tools for assessing implicit attitudes. To date, most IAT experiments have been run using Inquisit, a PC-based program. In the present article, we describe a method for conducting IAT experiments using PsyScope, a free, downloadable, Macintosh-based program (see Bonatti, n.d., for the OS X ve...

متن کاملValidation of whole room indirect calorimeters: refinement of current methodologies
Whole room indirect calorimeter (WRIC) validation techniques consist of propane combustion (PC) or infusion of mixed carbon dioxide (CO2) and nitrogen (N2) by a precision blender (PB). To determine the best method, PC of 6, 10, 22-h and PB infusions of 6, 10, and 14-h, were conducted. The 14-h infusion consisted of two metabolic settings. Energy expenditure (EE; kJ), ventilation (V; liters/min)...
متن کاملPharmaceutical market and health system in the Middle Eastern and Central Asian countries: Time for innovations and changes in policies and actions
The pharmaceutical market has some unique specifications in healthcare economics. It has to provide its products to the health systems and usually has to get its profits from reimbursement systems. In such conditions, the first thought that...
